What does white-label mean for websites and apps?
A marketing agency wins a client who needs a new site or an app. The agency owns the relationship, the strategy and often the ads; it does not want to hire a design and build team for every project. So a studio builds the work, and the agency presents it to the client as its own, under its own name and price.
Done well, the client gets a better build than the agency could make in house, the agency keeps its margin and its relationship, and the studio does what it is good at. Done badly, the client gets missed deadlines and nobody knows who fixes what. Almost every problem traces back to something that was not agreed at the start.
What should an agency agree before reselling a build?
- Scope: the pages, features and integrations, written down. "A website" is not a scope.
- Price and payment terms, fixed before work starts.
- Branding: whether the studio's name appears anywhere on the site, in the code or in the emails, and on what terms.
- Ownership: who owns the domain, the files and the accounts at the end. The client should own their domain.
- Changes and support after launch: who the client contacts, who makes the change and what it costs.
- Timeline and the point where the client signs off.
Those six lines cover most of what goes wrong. Get them in writing with any studio you use, including us.
How does working with DKnapp Design work for agencies?
Agency projects come through our custom studio. Book a call, bring the client brief, and we scope the build with you. You get a fixed price and a fixed scope before anything is made; custom builds start at $3,250. Branding, ownership and how changes are handled after launch are agreed on that call and written into the scope.
The studio covers websites and apps: creation from nothing, redesigns of sites a business has outgrown, and upgrades to speed, search and accessibility, measured before and after. Online payments and ad tracking, which agencies often need for clients running campaigns, are available on custom builds.
We do not publish a reseller program or a wholesale price list. Each agency project is scoped on its own, because no two client briefs are alike.
Can agencies use the free builder for client pitches?
The free builder is made for a business owner building their own site, from their own description or their own Google listing. If you want to show a prospect what their site could look like as part of a pitch, talk to us on a call first, so the build, the branding and what happens if they sign are clear between us.
If a client simply needs a standard small business site and would rather deal with us directly, the builder's plans are public: $99 a month, or $1,499 once to own it. Our referral program gives the referred business half off its first month on a monthly plan.
What should an agency look for in a white-label partner?
- Real, recent work you can look at, and honesty about which pieces are concepts and which are clients.
- A fixed price for a fixed scope, rather than open-ended hours.
- Clear answers on ownership: the client's domain in the client's name.
- Measured quality: page speed and accessibility checked, not promised.
- A named person you can reach, and a clear route for changes.
Ask any partner for these, including us. Our studio page shows concept studies labelled as concepts and real client work labelled as client work, and our speed numbers are measured on the page you read them on.
What does an agency charge its client?
That is your call, and it should be. The usual approach is to price the client on the value of the whole engagement (strategy, copy, ads, reporting and the build) rather than marking up the build alone. What matters for you is that the studio's price is fixed, so your margin is too.
How do we start?
Bring one real client brief to a call. We scope it, price it and tell you plainly what it would take. If it is not a fit, we will say so. Book a call or read about the studio first.
Quick answers
- Do you offer white-label builds?
- Yes, through our custom studio. Each agency project is scoped and priced on a call, from $3,250, with branding and ownership agreed in writing.
- Who owns the client's site?
- We agree it before work starts. Our standard is that the client's domain is registered in the client's name.
- Is there a wholesale price list?
- No. We do not publish one; each project is scoped on its own.
- Can our agency's name be the only one on the site?
- That is agreed on the call and written into the scope, including the site itself, the code and any emails the site sends.
- Do you build apps for agency clients too?
- Yes. Apps are scoped the same way as websites, through the studio, with features such as payments and ad tracking agreed per project.
- How long does a custom build take?
- It depends on the scope, which is why the timeline is set on the call along with the price, before work starts.
